It is hard to find peace in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. It is hard to choose the roads of love and unity, when society often tries to lead us toward division and distrust.
Peace, just like love and unity, is often presented to us as an anchor. Indeed, anchors become most relevant when storms are at full force. However, anchors also serve as stability when the waters are more still and certain. We best understand the need for peace, love, and unity, because we have experienced the opposites. In today’s America, our social media and news stations often stir up the chaotic waves of disunity, hatred, and distrust. And, instead of being anchors, we often pick sides and become part of the problem that leads us away from one another.
We can change
We can be the anchors of love, peace, and unity that the world needs
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. Hebrews 6:19-20a
Our hope. Our love. Our peace. Our guide towards unity. Our anchor. Christ is all of those things. Christ dwells in us, by his love and through his Spirit. We are the beloved community of Christ, and love. As we show up for one another, especially when times are hard and uncertain, we become anchors of hope.
We can choose to be anchors in our community, or we can be those who continue to stir up the waves of uncertainty and disunity.
Who shall we be?
Blessings,
Pastor Matthew
