Take a moment and think of the word self. Self, according to the dictionary, can be defined as a person’s essential being that distinguishes them from others. I love that definition. That definition of self reminds me that all are uniquely made. Additionally, I love the word essential in the definition of self. You are an essential being. The world needs you. Your community needs you.
There are many times that I have questioned myself, and the truth that I am a unique and essential being. Indeed, I often find many things about myself that I critique, and I quickly forget that I matter and have an essential place in the communities that I do life in. Have you ever felt that way? Many of us have. Many have questioned if the world needs us, and if we are unique. We are beautiful creations. We all have something to contribute to this world. We all have the opportunity be co-creators with God.
A co-creator with God?
From the beginning, ever since the garden (garden of Eden), we have been invited to be co-creators in God’s love story to the world. As we learned in the scripture on the Beatitudes this past Sunday, we are makers of peace, humble in spirit, extenders of mercy, and love in action. That’s quite a list. You matter. You belong. You are unique. You are an essential being. The world needs you.
Wouldn’t the world be lovely, if we actually treated people like they are unique, essential, and gifted co-creators with God?
Have a wonderful week!
