You may catch me staring at the field area at Faith UMC, during this season of life 🙂
Even in the midst of what has been a busy season for me, these past few days I have taken a few moments to walk around the field at church. This space is being transformed into a farming area that will ultimately provide free and fresh produce to families and pantries on the Eastside of Indianapolis. It is a joy to partner with Indy Urban Acres, and see them at work, as they nurture the land. Stop by and say hi to their farmers, and extend some hospitality their way.
It’s interesting, because right now the field space is tilled, and planting is soon to begin. However, when I look at the space/ground, I can begin to imagine what it will look like with plants and vegetables growing there, and coming into life and view.
It makes me reflect on life in general, over these past few months at Faith UMC, and in this community. We have already seen some exciting mission opportunities give birth, and take shape. Though, every now and then, when I close my eyes, I can just imagine (for a moment) what the community will look like perhaps months and years from now.
We do not always immediately see the fruits of our labors, but we still labor. We give thanks for all the work, effort, and dreaming that has led Faith to this season, because it all matters.
You may take a moment to simply swing by church this week, and look at the field. When you do, look out over the ground, perhaps close your eyes and imagine what it will look like to see life coming out of the land. Maybe come by and offer some prayers over that sacred space.
Let us never stop dreaming, and working, to bring about the Kingdom of God here on the Eastside of Indianapolis as it is in Heaven.
Blessings!
Pastor Matthew
