Today is an important day. Let me begin this reflection by encouraging you to vote, if you are able. Additionally, there is a lot of noise, and social media opinions, so try your best to find good information, and be informed about who you are voting for.
America is experiencing a time of political and social unrest. Most of the unrest and division is caused because of extreme behaviors, people not seeking facts, and that we have forgotten that we belong to one another. We are so focused on the maintaining of sides, that we are struggling to come to the center. It is in the center where we see one another, it is in the center where we ascribe dignity to one another, and coming to the center enables us to listen to one another. Jesus was a great example to us, in the value of coming to the center. He, often, returned and restored people into the center and life of the community. It was not unusual for people, in his time (and ours) to treat women, people in poverty, and the non-natives in the land, with hostility and without dignity. Jesus walked into those places, moments, and communities to heal, bring unity, and extend dignity and worth to all.
America may be experiencing unrest. However, we can begin to show love, light, grace, and dignity to all. We all have a part to play. Today is a good day to start moving from political unrest to peace. Today is a good day to begin spreading hope instead of hatred. Today is a good day to move from the extremes of sides, to the center, where we can listen, see, and extend grace and love to one another again.
Pause today before you vote. Pray today, and this week, before you react with your words or with social media posts. We can be bridges or blockades to the sharing of peace, love, and grace. What will we be?
In all moments, remember this week, everyone is created in the image of God. Be, breathe, and pray today, dear friends. Let’s keep protecting the sacred worth of all.
Blessings,
Pastor Matthew
